Derek Flory holding Torn Apart.

About the author.

Derek Reid Flory was born in Ellon Aberdeenshire and spent his formative years in the market town of Huntly, in the same county. After a short and undistinguished foray into university education in Edinburgh and then at Robert Gordon’s Institute of Technology Aberdeen, Derek began what was to be a fascinating and enjoyable career in sales and marketing in the pharmaceutical industry. Before his semi retirement in late 2006 he held the position of Group Director of Human Resources for a national healthcare company. Over the past thirty years Derek has contributed articles to newspapers and magazines and was editor of a number of company publications and has written several one act plays and pantomimes as well as having contributed to the creation of two award winning short films.

Torn Apart was published by Mainstream in July 2008 and its creation has occupied Derek and his family’s life since June 2007.

A planned sequel, Burma: In the Footsteps of My Family is a work in progress.

Derek is a registered member of the Scottish Book Trust and is available for author talks and book signings throughout the United Kingdom.
